Latin LOLCat: Non mare transisset

Here is today's Latin LOLCat. This proverb features the wonderful pluperfect subjunctive for a "contrary to fact" condition in the past: If the sailor had been afraid (but he was not!), he would not have crossed the sea (but he did!). You can find out more here: Non mare transisset. If you are interested in Latin proverbs and fables, check out the Bestiaria Latina blog.

Non mare transisset,
pavidus si nauta fuisset.

The sailor would not have crossed the sea
if he had been afraid.
